How To Build A Home Theater

By Eric Stafford

You can very easily spend thousands of dollars to build your home theater system. However, if you take the time to research, plan and look for deals, you can create a enviable home theater for much less. The prices for each component run from the hundreds into the thousands and your only real restriction is your budget.

The vast majority of us do not have a $10K budget for a home theater system. For us, it is important to create a budget and stick to it as it is easy to go overboard. In reality, you can build a fantastic home entertainment system for just a grand or two. The key is to do thorough research and find the optimum components for your space and budget.

My first recommendation when building a good quality home theater is to buy one piece at a time rather than building it all at once. This allows you to constantly upgrade your system without breaking the budget all at once. It also allows you the time to save up for better quality pieces within your system rather than attempting to make an all or nothing purchase. One thing to remember when purchasing pieces individually is to make sure that they are all compatible (this is especially important with speakers, which I recommend purchasing together as a set whenever possible).

The vital component to your home theater is the TV. IT si the focal point of the system and should be the first component you buy. High definition is the only TV you could consider buying. You should never get anything that is not a HDTV when building a home theater. The 32 inch TV with LCD display is the most popular TV in the US today. Other display technologies such as projection, LED and plasma are less widely used but should not be considered inferior quality. After deciding on your TV, you can start buying the other components to complete your system.

The receiver is the component that all of the other components run through. You should really do your research to find the best possible receiver you can buy. If you have a low quality receiver, your entire system will suffer. Do not underestimate the importance of a good, quality receiver.

To get the theater experience, you need to find a nice set of surround sound speakers. They provide the superior sound quality that you find in movie theaters and want to recreate in your theater. When buying your surround sound components, you should get them as a complete set from one manufacturer. The manufacturer designs them to work harmoniously together.

Blu-Ray players provide high definition video playback and are a nice way to complete your system.

Make sure you buy good, quality cables to connect your video and audio components. An HDMI cable will provide high definition video displays for your components.

The good thing about purchasing one component at a time is that you can constantly work towards upgrading your system to meet rising technology.
