The Evolution Of Local Hip Hop

By Tammie Caldwell

Hip Hop is one of the coolest genres of music. It consists of rhythmic sound with lyrical rhymes. This is the category that rap falls under. Under this, there are also other subcultures that came. Breakdance is influenced by the beat of this kind of tune. Those who live down South of Florida are into it. As a matter of fact, everything about this culture started there.

Since it uses heavy beats and powerful sounds, the drums and turntables are perfect instruments for this. Aside from breakdancing, there are also other interesting sub genres that are about art and dance. Beatboxing then came along which is done by creating various sounds and beat using the mouth. This can be used as an accompaniment. Another one, a new one, is dubstep which is using synthesizers or computer software. Local hip hop Fort Lauderdale, FL has indeed boomed in culture and arts.

It does not follow that a hip hop artist should be a rapper. There is a misconception that it is only about rap. Actually, it also includes DJing, scratching, and even in arts, specifically the creation of graffiti.

This rich culture was first discovered by the African Americans. As you can see, they are the ones dominating in the scene. Until they were joined by some white hip hop enthusiasts like Eminem who became the biggest White rapper in America.

In combining this with other music genres, like Rhythm and Blues, it is incorporated with a chorus in between chanted verses. The songs are very phenomenal because of the theme being used. They are very youthful as well. Some of them are using old songs and do remixes. For some, when you talk about remix, it will not be complete without rap.

In the early two thousands, rap was merged with rock and metal music. Thus, the sub genre called rap metal became phenomenal during the era. The evolution of this urban music is double edged since it created both negative and positive friction in the music industry.

Lil Wayne, Kanye, West and Eminem are the bad boys of rap. They talk about anything like drugs, alcoholism, and perverted topics. They also curse without limits. Their songs are filtered with cursing when they are airplayed but they have explicit albums that anyone can buy or download directly. There is no way of knowing if the people purchasing or downloading are already at the right age.

But this is a good form of expressionism. This is one of the most artistic ways to exercise freedom of speech. Many have been sued because of anti government lyrics but they always get away because of the freedom of speech clause.

Despite this fact, they are still being supported by the music industry. They are sometimes sued because of their offensive lyrics but musicians are usually protected by the freedom of speech clause. There are others that think they are the bravest and boldest people they know so they idolize them.
