Watch The Spanish Grand Prix Live

The Spanish Grand Prix is the most entertaining race event that take places every year in Montmelo, next to the city of Barcelona. Catalonia, the historical region next to Barcelona, has a formula one tradition,

So in 1909 the Catalan Cup was made on the roads around Sitges, next to Barcelona. The popularity and enthusiasm for such races led to the building of a track named Sitges Terrama. Here was hosted in 1923 the Spanish Grand Prix, but the race track was immediately abandoned after.

The Spanish Grand Prix has travelled a number of times during the last century and many people remember the Montjuic street circuit. This course had a very fast and a very slow section, which led to many accidents. In 1975 the Spanish Grand Prix was marked a tragedy when a car skidded off, killing five people. Considering that year the Montjuic was used no more.

During the 80s the Grand Prix took place in Jerez or Jarama and in 1991 the new circuit in Montmelo was finished and since then all the competitions have taken place in Catalonia. This circuit is an all rounder circuit and has 16 corners, with various difficulty. The track has 4.654 km and the record for a lap was made by Rikknen at 1 minute and 21.66 seconds. During the years the track was very good for Brits, with Mansell that won in 1991 and the next year, Hill was won in 1994 and Button in 2009. Of course none other than Schumacher had the most success in the Spanish formula one Grand Prix.

It is best to book tickets in advance in order to secure one. There are 15 stands located on the circuit and the price for tickets start at 110 Euros for a pass for one day and can go right up to 500 Euros for a pass in the main grandstand. Of course if you choose the VIP ticket, hospitality deals you will pay from three to four thousands Euros.

In order to get from Barcelona to Montmelo, you can use the train, car or coach. If you come by car you must know that Montmelo is a city at around 20 km next to Barcelona. That's way during the Spanish formula one Grand Prix many choose the hotels in the big city and to travel to the circuit area. You will find available over 30,000 parking spaces for a price of 17 Euros for the entire period of the race.

By using the train you can reach Montmelo easily all the time. Trains are running from Clot or Barcelona Sants rail stations and from the Montemelo station the shuttles will send you to the circuit in just few minutes. A ticket is five Euros and the shuttle is free for all the ticket holders for the race. A coach company called Sagalo has a bus service every year. The buses depart from 8am to 12pm every 15 minutes. A ride will need 45 minutes and will cost nine Euros.
